A woman will face court charged after a taxi driver was allegedly assaulted in Newcastle this morning.
About 9.20am (Monday 16 February 2026), emergency services were called to Denison Street, Hamilton, following reports of an assault.
At the scene, police were told that a taxi driver had allegedly been assaulted by a customer.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries to his hands.
A knife and a mobile phone were seized at the location, and officers attached to Newcastle City Police District commenced inquiries into the incident and patrolled the area.
About 9.45am, police arrested a 39-year-old woman on Cleary Street, Hamilton.
She was taken to Newcastle Police Station where she was charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and custody of knife in public place - first offence.
She was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 26 February 2026.
