$25 million boost for Queensland's critical scientific infrastructure

Queenslanders will be able to reap the benefits of a $25 million co-investment by the Palaszczuk Government in key scientific infrastructure.

Minister for Science Leeanne Enoch said the Research Infrastructure Co-investment Fund (RICF) would ensure Queensland's research community had access to the critical infrastructure they need to undertake their important work.

"This Fund allows critical co-investment in facilities with partnerships and joint ventures in Queensland and puts our science facilities in a strong position," Minister Enoch said.

"Some projects that have received funding in the past include clinical trials, facilities to process human cells and tissue and ocean radar technology.

"A strong research and development capability is a critical driver for innovation in the state's economy and will help to create the jobs of the future."

This Fund complements the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).

"Queensland facilities play a vital role in supporting the state's research and development sector," Minister Enoch said.

"Funding will be prioritised for facilities that demonstrate significant potential economic, environmental and social benefits for Queensland, including creating jobs, engaging more young Queenslanders in higher education training and work opportunities in STEM, improving the health of Queenslanders, and increasing protection of the Great Barrier Reef," Ms Enoch said.

To access full funding under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, facilities are required to secure co-investment commitments from state and territory governments and industry.
