The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment, with upgraded facilities to help seniors stay engaged, connected and active at the University of the Third Age (U3A) Redlands.
The upgrades facilities have officially opened, following a $250,000 investment from the Crisafulli Government.
After a decade of decline under Labor, the funding for building works reflects the Crisafulli Government's commitment to supporting seniors and fostering age-friendly communities across Queensland.
It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy and a plan for Queensland's future.
U3A is an international, volunteer-led organisation supporting retired and semi-retired seniors to pursue educational, creative and leisure opportunities.
The capital investment was used to upgrade 'The Cottage', which provides a welcoming space for local seniors to learn, socialise and stay active, a facility the former Labor Government failed to fund.
Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services Amanda Camm said it was important to have affordable learning available for seniors no matter where they live.
"We recognise the immense health and wellbeing benefits that come from learning, connecting and staying active as you age," she said.
"By investing in U3A Redlands, we're ensuring seniors have access to affordable opportunities to enrich their lives after being neglected by the former Labor Government.
Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said U3A Redlands played a critical role in helping seniors live healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
"U3A Redlands has been an integral part of the community for decades, helping hundreds of seniors by supporting them to continue promoting active retirement and encouraging better mental and physical health."
"This upgrade to 'The Cottage' means more local seniors can come together, and affordably learn new skills and foster meaningful connections," she said.
The government's support for U3A Redlands is part of its broader commitment to creating age-friendly communities, where everyone feels connected, included, respected and valued.
