Three manufacturers in Brisbane's south-west will turn cutting-edge technology into transformative growth after securing $2.6 million in combined funding from the Queensland Government.
Queensland Premier and Member for Inala Annastacia Palaszczuk said the $46 million Made in Queensland (MiQ) grants program is about creating more manufacturing jobs for Queenslanders.
"My government will always support the businesses manufacturing and employing in Queensland," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Manufacturing is one of our backbone industries, and the positive ripple effects created by these grants benefits workers, their families and the community at large.
"Laser Central in Richlands will install two automated laser-cutting machines after securing $1.58 million through MiQ, while Wacol transport manufacturers XL Service Bodies and Drake Trailers will share more than $1 million to purchase new equipment and advance their production capabilities.
"This increased capacity will see around 20 new jobs created in our area, and will ensure hundreds more jobs are retained."
Laser Central Managing Director Rob Newton said the MiQ funding would further boost the business' high-tech cutting services.
"The new laser-cutting machines will significantly increase our production capacity while reducing our energy and maintenance costs," Mr Newton said.
"We will also increase the competitive advantage we have in the marketplace thanks to an increased capacity to laser-cut a broader variety of thicknesses of metal tube and sheets."
Minister for Manufacturing Cameron Dick said MiQ is helping local manufacturers expand, upskill and employ.
"Since 2017 the Palaszczuk Government has supported around 75 projects across Queensland through MiQ," Mr Dick said.
"The grants, which are matched by the manufacturers, will help create more than 930 new jobs over the next five years and are expected to generate approximately $92 million in private sector investment."
Shortlisted applicants for MiQ Round 3 have been invited to submit detailed applications.
