Almost 3000 new jobs were created in Queensland in November, according to ABS Labour Force Data released today.
Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the additional jobs took the total number of jobs created under the Palaszczuk Government to nearly 175,000 – five times more than created under the previous LNP government.
"More people are finding work under our government, despite the fact that more people entering the labour market and record numbers of people are moving to Queensland from other states," Ms Trad said
"There’s no doubt those moving here from are coming for our jobs and our unmatched lifestyle. That’s why we’re continuing to invest in infrastructure and work with business and industry to attract new investment that will further drive jobs growth.
"The unemployment rate today is lower than the one we inherited from the LNP (6.6% off a 6.7% high), but we know there is more work to do.
"We are making good progress, particularly in regional areas like Mackay where the unemployment is at 3.5%, but our number one focus remains on creating jobs for Queenslanders.
"Our $46.3B capital program is creating 38,000 jobs this year alone – 25,000 of those are in regional Queensland.
"As part of our mid-year budget last week, I also announced we would bring forward critical funding to stimulate jobs growth, particularly in regional Queensland.
"We’ve brought forward funding for projects like the Haughton Pipeline in Townsville and the Works for Queensland program because we know that they will deliver jobs and stimulate local economies.
"We also announced a $70M Build to Rent initiative in Brisbane that will create new construction jobs and deliver affordable housing for key workers.
"These are real things, tangible projects that will deliver more jobs, better infrastructure and affordable housing for Queenslanders.
Along with our Back to Work and Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs, our Payroll tax rebates for apprentices and our industry attraction incentives, we have the policy settings in place to create jobs into the future."
