Located on Newfoundland and Labrador's picturesque west coast, the Gros Morne region is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and vibrant local communities. The Government of Canada is investing in projects within the region to help strengthen tourism, support cultural development and sustainable food practices, and bring together residents, businesses and visitors.
Today, the Honourable Kody Blois, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, announced federal support of more than $3.7 million for two tourism operators in the Gros Morne region.
These investments will help the following organizations stimulate the local economy by enhancing tourism experiences, upgrading equipment and infrastructure, supporting community-led development initiatives, and improving the quality of life for Atlantic Canadians.
The Gros Morne Cooperating Association will:
- develop and construct the Gros Morne Culinary and Cultural Hub to enhance visitor experiences, while creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, farmers and producers. The project will strengthen economic and community development in the region, celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador's rich cultural heritage, and help extend the tourism season. ($2,059,114)
- capitalize on the Gros Morne Cultural Blueprint, which highlights the need for a collaborative approach towards product development and marketing the region as a premier cultural experiential destination. ($715,201)
The Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism will implement the ACTivate - Activating Community Tourism initiative between 2026-2028. Developed in partnership with St. Francis Xavier University, it challenges participants to place community at the centre of their development priorities rather than viewing opportunities solely through the lens of a visitor experience. ($966,600)
Today's announcement reflects the Government of Canada's commitment to helping communities build on their natural and cultural assets, create lasting economic opportunities and strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador's position as a premier destination.
