300,000 cigarettes seized in Lalor

Investigators from Mill Park Divisional Response Unit, with the assistance of the Australian Border Force and the Australian Tax Office, have charged a woman after seizing what is alleged to be illegal cigarettes and undeclared tobacco in Lalor yesterday.

Police executed a search warrant at a Bellarine Drive residence just before 7am on 20 July and arrested three women and a man.

About 300,000 cigarettes and 200kg of tobacco were located at the scene, as well as equipment for cigarette production.

A 37-year-old Lalor woman was charged with possess tobacco products with the intent of defrauding the revenue, possess tobacco in excess of 100 kilograms and possessing equipment for illegal manufacture and production of tobacco.

She was bailed to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates' Court on 13 November.

All others were released pending further enquiries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
