$300M Boost for Regional, Rural, Remote Aged Care

Department of Health

We are investing a record $300 million to boost access to high quality residential aged care and worker housing outside of major cities.

Round 3 of the Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP) will fund 66 infrastructure projects to upgrade or build new aged care homes. It will also deliver staff accommodation to attract and retain workers in regional, rural and remote communities.

Funded projects include:

  • 315 new or reopened aged care beds, increasing access where it is needed most and helping older patients to transition from hospital into residential aged care sooner
  • 12 projects to support more older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to access services that respect their culture, connection to Country and community
  • a 94-bed residential care home in Broken Hill, the single largest grant awarded to date under the ACCAP, to address viability challenges in the region
