The funding has delivered significant upgrades across the Shepparton Sports City Precinct, including improvements to VISY Community Stadium and Shepparton Sports Stadium, as well as the completion of the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path Route 2 expansion, connecting Gemmill Swamp Wildlife Reserve to KidsTown.

Together, the projects have strengthened Greater Shepparton's reputation as a leading regional destination for sport, recreation and tourism, while creating more inclusive and accessible spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

The upgrades at VISY Community Stadium include improved basketball courts, modern scoreboards and shot clocks, gender-inclusive accessible change facilities and roof improvements, while works at Shepparton Sports Stadium have enhanced accessibility, upgraded change rooms, repaired roofing and provided new sporting equipment.

Additional improvements throughout the Sports City Precinct, including a new car park and internal footpaths, have improved safety and accessibility and will help support future regional sporting events and tournaments.

The 2.38km expansion of the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path has created a scenic walking and cycling connection between Shepparton and Mooroopna through the Gemmill Swamp Wildlife Reserve.

The shared path not only improves connectivity across the municipality, adding to the extensive shared path network in Greater Shepparton, but also encourages healthy and active lifestyles, provides greater access to nature and showcases the region's cultural and environmental heritage through interpretive signage along the route.

Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers, said the projects represented a significant investment in the future of Greater Shepparton.

"These projects are a fantastic outcome for Greater Shepparton and demonstrate what can be achieved through strong partnerships and strategic investment," he said.

"The $3 million funding has enabled Council to deliver infrastructure that enhances community wellbeing, improves accessibility and creates more opportunities for people to participate in sport, recreation and active living."

"The upgrades to our sporting facilities will support local clubs, attract major events and provide pathways for athletes of all abilities, while the Yahna Gurtji Shared Path offers residents and visitors a unique way to experience the natural beauty of our region," Cr Akers said.

"Importantly, these projects have created facilities that are more inclusive, welcoming and accessible for everyone and will continue to deliver benefits to our community for many years to come."

Council thanks the Victorian Government for its support in delivering the projects through its Council Support Package, and acknowledges the contribution of local contractors, sporting clubs and community stakeholders who helped bring the vision to life.
