A man will face court charged with drugs, and firearm-related offences in the state's northeast.
About 12.35pm yesterday (Thursday 22 May 2025), officers attached to Oxley Police District executed a search warrant at a home on the New England Highway, Kootingal, about 17km east of Tamworth.
Officers allegedly located and seized, 54 cannabis plants, electronic equipment, large containers and bags of dried cannabis, cannabis seeds, and five firearms.
Police will allege in court the cannabis plants were dried in a modified shed with electronic monitoring equipment and a woodfire.
The cannabis seized was in excess of 50kg, with a potential street value of over $400,000.
A 48-year-old man was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with:
- Cultivate cannabis over indictable and under commercial quantity
- Supply prohibited drug over commercial quantity
- Possess prohibited drug (x2)
- Possess unauthorised firearm (x3)
- Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm (x3), and
- Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm.
The man appeared in Tamworth Local Court today (Friday 23 May 2025), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
