The transformation of Frankston Station is set to continue, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government making it easier for commuters to find a car park with 500 brand-new spaces.
Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan today joined Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke at the new Frankston Station to announce the new car parks will be built as part of the $150 million Car Parks for Commuters Fund.
Before being elected, Labor promised to transform the Frankston Station Precinct. Since then, the Andrews Labor Government has delivered a brand-new station with new public areas, upgraded pedestrian connections and a redeveloped Young Street.
As part of this investment, the Labor Government also carried out research to address parking issues at the station.
Now that this massive construction blitz is almost complete, a re-elected Labor Government will get on with delivering 500 new car spaces.
The Car Parks for Commuters Fund will see 11,000 new car parks being built at some of our busiest metropolitan and regional train stations.
With around 55,000 station spaces currently across the state, the investment will see a 20 per cent bump in available parking. The extra spaces are on top of the close to 10,000 new and upgraded spaces built by the Labor Government over the past four years and is expected to create and support over 400 jobs.
To further support the needs of the growing Frankston community, the Labor Government is also undertaking the business case and planning work necessary for a future extension of the Frankston Line.
While the Liberals cut and closed and failed to deliver for Frankston – even opposing the level crossing removals at Carrum – Labor will always deliver for this local community.
The Labor Government is investing $2 billion in the Frankston Line to improve reliability and run more trains, more often. The investment is creating over 2000 jobs removing 13 level crossings, upgrading signalling and power and building 10 new stations.
