52-year-old dies in street fight at Tamworth

A man from Tamworth in the New England region of NSW has been charged with murder following the death of a 52-year-old man after a fight on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to an address on Goonoo Goonoo Road about 7:30pm following reports a number of men were fighting, police said.

A 52-year-old man found with a head wound at the scene declined medical treatment but agreed to be driven to his nearby home.

On Saturday afternoon, he attended Tamworth Base Hospital where it was discovered he had significant internal injuries.

He died a few hours later.

Detectives from Oxley Local Area Command and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad formed Strike Force Leasingham to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Executing a crime scene warrant at a unit on Bilkurra Avenue, Tamworth on Sunday, detectives arrested a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman.

The woman was released without charge.

The man's been charged with murder and assault occasioning death.

Refused bail, he is scheduled to appear in Tamworth Local Court on Monday.
