750kg over weight limit in Craigieburn

Police will charge a truck driver after he blew a tyre due to his trailer being 750kg over the weight limit in Craigieburn yesterday.

Members from the Heavy Vehicle Unit were travelling along the Hume Highway when they came across a truck and trailer pulled over in the north-bound lanes about 3.15pm.

After stopped to assist and chatting with the 31-year-old driver, they realised that the trailer was loaded with large bricks that was far too heavy and caused a tyre to burst.

The pallet the bricks were sitting on had also collapsed due to the weight.

While the driver was attempting to pull over, he was unable to properly control the heavily loaded rig and struck the roadside barrier.

Police ordered the trailer off the road and the Kilmore man is expected to be charged on summons with failing to comply with mass and loading requirements.
