A Bigger, Better Cricket Club For Doreen

Families in Doreen will be able to rely on great local sporting facilities, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver $180,000 towards the Laurimar Recreation Reserve.

Right now, despite record levels of participation, the Reserve’s cricket nets are in an awkward location, forcing batters to face directly into the sun.

Funding from a re-elected Labor Government will go towards the relocation and upgrade of the cricket nets, allowing players to train at all times during the day.

The upgraded Reserve will be utilised by local sporting clubs, with Laurimar Power Juniors, Seniors and Women’s teams all set to benefit.

With these upgrades from a re-elected Labor Government, local clubs – and this local community – will have the great sporting facilities they deserve.

The commitment builds on the Andrews Labor Government’s investment in local and community sport, including more than $3 million for the Painted Hills Recreation Reserve and Community Soccer Centre, $562,000 for the Whittlesea Swim Centre and $100,000 for AF Walker Reserve.

While the Liberals cut funding for hospitals and schools, and closed TAFE campuses – only Labor will invest in the projects our community really needs.

The Labor Government has made the biggest investment in grassroots sporting opportunities in Victoria’s history, with $420 million dedicated to community sports.

As noted by Minister for Sport John Eren

"Cricket brings communities together. With this investment, we’ll make Doreen’s local sporting clubs – and local community – stronger than ever."

"Our record goes to show – a re-elected Labor Government will make sure communities have the sporting facilities they need."

As noted by Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green

"This is a common-sense investment that will be make a real difference to local cricketers."

"Whether it’s the Laurimar Power or even just a hit with the kids on the weekend, everyone in our community will benefit."
