A Letter from Commissioner Ian Stewart

To the Queensland Community,

This week the Queensland police service buried one of our own. Senior constable Brett Forte was afforded full police honours as a mark of respect for those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the community, Queensland Police say.

His sacrifice is a timely and stark reminder of the complex and sometimes dangerous role that your police are faced with, as they go about their duties, every day.

I am so very proud to be part of a team that always strives to provide the very best service possible to those who need our assistance. Are we perfect, no, we are simply human. But we do care deeply for our fellow Queenslanders, your safety, your security.

With every tragedy comes a silver lining and in this instance it has been the overwhelming support of the community for not only Susie, her children and her extended family but also for your police officers right throughout the state.

We, the members of the Queensland Police Service have been deeply moved by your sentiments and acknowledgements during this difficult and sad period.

On behalf of the entire organisation I thank you for your understanding, support and compassion.

Ian Stewart
Commissioner
Queensland Police Service
