The AAIB Annual Safety Review 2025 has been published. It includes information on occurrences and the safety action taken or planned in response to AAIB investigations concluded in 2025
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has published its Annual Safety Review which provides an overview of occurrences notified to the AAIB in 2025 as well as the safety action taken or planned in response to AAIB investigations concluded in 2025.
- The AAIB received 783 occurrence notifications (compared to 762 in 2024) and opened 1 formal investigation and 23 field investigations. A further 56 investigations were opened by correspondence and 131 became record only investigations.
- The AAIB provided support to 45 new overseas investigations where there was a UK interest.
- There were 12 investigations into fatal accidents which involved 18 deaths.
- In 2025, the AAIB published 198 final reports: 16 field investigations; 49 correspondence investigations and 133 record only investigations.
- The Branch made 9 Safety Recommendations and 97 significant Safety Actions were taken proactively by the industry in 2025 as a direct result of AAIB investigations.
The Annual Safety Review also contains articles on the risk of high voltage battery systems to accident investigation activities, and the use of AI to support accident investigation.
