Justin Stevens, ABC Director, News: "The ABC's referendum coverage has been outstanding. We've done our job as the national public broadcaster: impartially presenting a diversity of perspectives; facilitating respectful discussion and debate; providing explanation and context; reporting the key stories accurately and fairly; investigating issues and bringing them to the public's attention; and delivering compelling, original storytelling to our audiences from around the country.

"All ABC teams involved in covering this story have made a valuable contribution and demonstrated the depth and breadth of coverage the ABC can deliver from more than 60 locations around the country.

"Our coverage has been elevated by the leading role played by our incredible First Nations journalists. Their contribution to the ABC has never been more important than during this campaign - and for many months leading up to it. Under sometimes very difficult circumstances their work has been exceptional - authoritative, accurate and impartial. The ABC is incredibly proud of them and their work.

"They have also helped elevate Indigenous voices throughout our coverage. We've never before seen and heard from so many First Nations people across all ABC platforms. This is a demonstration of what we can achieve and how we aim to continue: fully representing all voices and views in our nation.

"Our coverage has at times been criticised by both the 'Yes' and the 'No' campaigns for overly representing or 'platforming' the other. In reality, ABC coverage heard from, scrutinised and interrogated both.

"We will continue to do this on voting day, and beyond, without fear or favour."
