Abstracts are now being invited for the two pre-eminent healthcare events of 2020, to be held at the International Convention Centre Sydney in May.

The National Medicines Symposium (NMS) 2020 will be held on Thursday 21 May. The symposium immediately follows the 2020 Choosing Wisely Australia National Meeting, to be held on Wednesday 20 May.

A networking event for all delegates will be held on the evening of 20 May.

NPS MedicineWise CEO Adj A/Prof Steve Morris says the two meetings will each offer a different but complementary perspective on key issues facing the health sector.

"The theme for NMS 2020 is Rising to the medication safety challenge, and within this theme we will be discussing medication without harm, insights from consumer journeys, clinical innovation to meet new challenges, partnerships in health - collaborating for impact, and medicines literacy for all," said Mr Morris.

In the context of medicine safety being named as a National Health Priority Area and the third WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm, the program will provide the latest content in the medicines and health environment, delivered by acclaimed experts.

"The Choosing Wisely Australia National Meeting has the theme Empowering consumers to choose wisely, and within this we will cover building consumer confidence in shared decision making, health professionals leading by example, impact of 'the conversation', and changing culture in organisations and systems.

"The focus of this year's National Meeting is on empowering consumers and supporting health professionals to be champions for changing the conversations in our health system so that people only receive care that is evidence-based and truly necessary," said Mr Morris.
