Accelerating export success

Guy Barnett, Minister for Trade,

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering more help for Tasmanian businesses to develop their off-island markets through marketing and promotional activities that will introduce their products and services to the world.

The enhanced Accelerating Trade Grant Program is set to help more businesses with trade being a key driver of our economic strength and the foundation for jobs growth across the State.

Grants will be available to Tasmanian businesses who are able to demonstrate that their products are produced, transformed or value-added in Tasmania, and intended to be despatched from Tasmania; and are seeking support to undertake promotional and marketing activities targeting off-island markets.

The maximum grant amount available under the program has been increased to $20,000 to help more Tasmanian businesses break into new export markets or boost their interstate and international sales.

The program provides up to a 50 per cent contribution to approved applicants.

Two tiers of grant assistance are available, based on the applicant's annual sales turnover.

  • Tier one businesses: annual sales turnover of between $150,000 and $20 million – maximum grant of $10,000
  • Tier two businesses: annual sales turnover of between $300,000 and $20 million – maximum grant of $20,000

Last financial year the program supported Tasmanian businesses chase new market opportunities or expand their presence in existing markets through direct market activities such as domestic and international trade shows and events, e-Commerce activities, and digital promotions.

The program is achieving real outcomes for Tasmanian businesses, such as the Tasmanian agrifood exporter in receipt of a grant of $10,000 under the program who reported over $700,000 sales in a priority market, directly attributable to the digital-led project supported by the grant.

With so many of our 39,000 local businesses already achieving success either on the mainland or internationally there is plenty of scope to sell more Tasmanian goods and services, especially riding on the growing global appreciation of Tasmanian quality.
