ACMA announces new measures to support Australian content

On 30 September 2020, the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts announced a package of new measures to support Australian content on all screens. They reflect the new ways Australians are accessing and consuming content in a digital media environment.

The intended changes to the obligations of commercial free-to-air television licensees will be made through a Ministerial Direction to the ACMA. It will require the ACMA to revoke and remake the Australian Content Standard and Children's Television Standards.

The ACMA is preparing to implement the new measures on the announced dates.

Changes to the obligations of subscription television licensees under the New Eligible Drama Expenditure scheme will require amendment to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992.
