ACT Turf Sportsgrounds Shut 2 Weeks for Winter Prep

With summer sport drawing to a close, most ACT Government turf sportsgrounds will close for a two-week period from Wednesday 18 March 2026 for preparations and maintenance for the winter sport codes.

Maintenance work will include installing goal posts, line marking fields as well as upgrades to the grass turf including top dressing and fertilising activities.

"The two-week maintenance period occurs before the start of both the winter and summer sport seasons, and our team work closely with the sport peak bodies ahead of each of these scheduled periods," Luke Halpin, Director of Sport and Recreation Facilities said.

"Starting tomorrow, grounds will close from Wednesday 18 March until Tuesday 31 March 2026 inclusive, re-opening on Wednesday 1 April 2026.

"During the two-week period, we will keep some grounds open to allow for sports to continue with training or match play before the kick-off of the upcoming winter season. These grounds will receive maintenance at a later date," Mr Halpin said.
