Watch live demonstrations, meet emergency crews and learn from interactive displays that show how our heroes prepare, respond and save lives, at a free event this weekend.

See all this and more at the family friendly Emergency Expo on Sunday, October 19, from 10am to 2pm at Lake Kawana, Bokarina - right in front of Sunshine Coast Stadium.

A Koala fire fighter mascot walks through a crowd during a demonstration.

As the Chair of the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group, Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli is encouraging everyone to come along.

"This is an action-packed event but it's also incredibly important and not to be missed," Mayor Natoli said.

"Kids will love the exciting demonstrations, where they'll get to see our emergency services responding exactly as they would in a real-life crisis situation.

"And adults can learn what they need to do to prepare for disaster while keeping their family and home safe.

"Staff from both Noosa and Sunshine Coast Councils will be there to chat and share their regional knowledge with you, along with representatives from our emergency services.

Groups of young families inspect a police car and ATV vehicle.

"There'll be plenty of emergency service stalls to explore, with response vehicles like fire trucks, police cars and a helicopter for the kids to see up close, plus food trucks and refreshments to keep everyone energised.

"If you've been thinking about volunteering for an emergency service, the Expo is a great opportunity to chat with current volunteers - all in one place!"

Mayor Natoli also highlighted the importance of recognising the tireless work of emergency personnel.

"On your toughest day, whether it's a flood, fire or accident, our emergency services are there for you.

"Come along, say thank you and learn how we can all play a part in keeping our community safe."
