Activating empty spaces to bring back buzz

Two emerging Melbourne designers are taking part in a City of Melbourne push to breathe new life into vacant shopfronts and help bring the buzz back - in style.

The artisans behind menswear brand Informale and headwear boutique The Millinery Collective will showcase their craftmanship and vibrantly designed shopfronts in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, thanks to the $2.6 million Shopfront Activation Program.

The creatives are the first to make the most of the initiative, which aims to fill empty shopfronts in the CBD, Docklands and Lygon Street with artists and entrepreneurs.

Commercial property owners are being encouraged to offer vacant or underused spaces for flexible agreements, to fill the streets with action as the city reopens.

Informale will offer new designs fresh out of its Melbourne based workshop, while The Millinery Collective will deliver a unique shopping experience where customers can watch headpieces being made - just in time for Spring Racing Season.

The Shopfront Activation Program is part of the $100 million Melbourne City Recovery Fund, a collaboration by the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government.
