Australian Catholic University is working with Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training on new partnerships that will help high-achieving Vietnamese students further their studies at ACU.

This follows the signing of several agreements with universities, healthcare providers and charitable organisations in Vietnam, which have expanded academic exchange and research collaboration.

In a week-long visit to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the ACU delegation met with Australian diplomatic and trade representatives, senior officials from Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Health and leading universities and education partners. The visit was supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Department of Education (DoE).

Wide-ranging discussions canvassed potential collaboration in areas including teacher training, health education, student mobility and pathways.

ACU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Zlatko Skrbis said the discussions marked a significant step in the university's relationships with partners in Vietnam.

"We welcome the opportunity for Vietnam's best and brightest students to complete their doctoral studies at ACU, where they will gain access to cutting-edge research methods and mentoring from leading academics," Professor Skrbis said.

"This is part of a broader approach that will help uplift the quality of scholarship in Vietnam and open the door to joint research projects and institutional exchanges.

"These international partnerships are vital in driving innovation, research collaboration, and are an integral part of our 10-year strategic plan, Vision 2033."

ACU Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global and Education Pathways, Chris Riley said ACU and its partners in Vietnam shared a common interest in furthering collaboration in areas like English-language education, climate change, teacher education and social inclusion.

"There are exciting opportunities to grow partnerships that showcase ACU's research strengths and expertise across education, health and STEM," Mr Riley said.

"Collaboration with our international partners opens new doors for joint research, academic exchanges and pathways for Vietnamese students to study in Australia."

The delegation from ACU included Vice-Chancellor and President Zlatko Skrbis, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global and Education Pathways, Chris Riley, Professor Andrew O'Neil, Executive Dean, Faculty of Law and Business, Professor Iain Hay, Associate Dean, Partnerships, Faculty of Education and Arts, Professor Justin Kemp, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Ms Michelle Lopez, Director, Graduate Research School.

ACU's partners in Vietnam include VNU University of Education, Hanoi National University of Education, Hung Yen University of Technology and Education (UTEHY), Academy of Finance (AoF), Thuongmai University (TMU), British University Vietnam (BUV), Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH) and FPT University and Children's Hope in Action (CHIA).
