Benalla Rural City Council in collaboration with the Live4Life program is offering Youth Mental Health First Aid training aimed at equipping adults with vital skills to support young individuals facing mental health challenges.
Youth Mental Health First Aid training empowers adults to recognise and respond effectively to young individuals experiencing mental health problems or crises until professional help is available. Upon completion, participants become Mental Health First Aiders, equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to provide essential support when it matters most.
The training will be conducted over four sessions on the following dates:
- 5pm - 9.30pm, Monday 22 April 2024
- 5pm - 9.30pm, Monday 29 April 2024
- 5pm - 9.30pm, Monday 6 May 2024
- 5pm - 9.30pm, Monday 13 May 2024
Location: Benalla Community Care, 4 Coster Street, Benalla.
Participants will need to attend all four sessions to gain their accreditation.
Mayor Cr Danny Claridge emphasised the importance of proactive measures to address mental health issues in the community.
"Mental health is a recognised problem in Benalla, and it's imperative that we take action to better educate and support our community, particularly our youth," Cr Claridge said.
"I encourage everyone in our community to participate in this training. By doing so, we strengthen our ability to support and care for our young people, ensuring their well-being and resilience," he said.
Thanks to Live4Life Benalla, the course is being offered at a subsidised rate of $20, making it accessible for all interested individuals.
