Two new independent advisory committees have been established to provide direct input into Mildura Rural City Council's tourism and economic development activities.
Councillor for Events and Tourism, and Economic Development, Rebecca Crossling, said establishment of the committees would usher in a new era of closer collaboration between key industry sectors and Council.
"This is an exciting time for our region as we now have a direct conduit of expert advice, insights and experience from our community's tourism and economic development-related sectors into Council's operations," Cr Crossing said.
"This will help us drive further growth in tourism and economic development in our region.
"It's also recognition of the importance Council places on collaboration to support the local economy.
"These two advisory committees will really help foster opportunities to connect with industry and drive prosperity for our region."
Committee members were drawn from a large field of candidates who submitted expressions of interest earlier this year.
Councillors last week endorsed the following committee members following a thorough assessment process:
Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC)
- Kendall Livingstone
- Judith Damiani
- Liam Wood
- Ryan Hammerton
- Max Shawcross
- Elise Elder
- Stefano De Pieri.
Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC)
- Ryan Casey
- Tennille Chalmers
- Lucy Bromley
- Peter Kelly
- Camille Mansell
- Colin Stewart
- Maria Carrazza.
Cr Crossling said the advisory committees would provide expert advice to Council's Strategy and Growth Department in several ways.
"Firstly, through each member's own unique experience in the respective sectors they'll be able to provide insights and advice, which will be invaluable in itself," she said.
"But as industry members who live and work within the tourism and economic development-related sectors of our community, they'll be able to feed information and advice into each advisory committee.
"This could mean everything from insights and advice from members of the public through to industry leaders, tourism operators and business owners.
"Each committee will then report to Council's Strategy and Growth Department, which oversees economic development and tourism functions within Council."
Each committee will elect a Chair at its first meeting, who will be in place for a 12-month term.
