Advocate to Contest Farrer By-election

The NSW Nationals are pleased to announce that Brad Robertson has been preselected as the Party's candidate for the May 9 Farrer by-election.

The decision has been made by members of the Party's Farrer Federal Electorate Council with over 70 Party members in attendance in Giffith today.

Brad together with his wife Kate and children live at Table Top. He is a retired Army Colonel who served in the military for almost 30 years He was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievements.

He led a battalion deployed to Afghanistan in August 2012 and has dedicated his life to serving Australia.

Since leaving the Army Brad has continued to serve through voluntary work with the Board of Directors of the Sunshine Trust, and is currently the Chair. He has also worked tirelessly to help veterans, serving as Chair of both the Carry On organisation and Veteran Housing Australia.

Brad said he was honoured to have been preselected by the grassroots membership of The Nationals.

"I am committed to making our region a better place for families."

"Times are tough here, with drought hitting hard and the cost of living going through the roof. People in the regions want actions and solutions," he said.

NSW Nationals' Chairman, Hon Rick Colless, said with four impressive community leaders contesting the preselection, and a large number of members voting, The Nationals are in excellent shape.

"We are the only party that is solely dedicated to the regions and I know Brad will continue that fight, and I look forward to campaigning for him" Mr Colless said.

Federal Nationals leader, David Littleproud, said Mr Robertson is a community champion, and the region made a strong choice in selecting him as its candidate.

"The Nationals are all about local champions," Mr Littleproud said.

"Brad Robertson has dedicated his life to serving Australia. First in uniform and now in his community."

Deputy Nationals Leader, Kevin Hogan, said Mr Robertson understands the challenges facing regional communities and he will be a powerful voice for the people of Farrer in Canberra.

"Farrer also has a proud Nationals history, with former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer representing the electorate for 17 years and becoming one of the most respected regional voices in the country," Mr Hogan said.
