Advocate to help drive fight against weeds

The Hodgman Liberal Government is advertising the new role of Tasmanian Weed Advocate, to work with the different levels of government, landowners and the broader community in tackling invasive weeds.

Our Government is addressing the significant threat weeds pose through the implementation of a new $5 million Weed Action Fund.

This will ensure we can step up the fight against significant agricultural and environmental weeds, helping farmers, land managers and the community in general to reduce the cost and impact weeds cause.

It is estimated that weeds cost Australian farmers around $1.5 billion a year in weed control activities, and a further $2.5 billion a year in lost agricultural production.

Working in partnership with weeds and invasive species experts, the Weed Advocate will support the delivery of the Weed Action Fund and assist in identifying the strategic on-ground priorities.

Expressions of interest for the role are now being sought, and further information on the role is in today’s newspapers or https://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/hot-topics

The Advocate will be a recognised community Landcare leader and will have an advisory and advocacy role.
