AFL update 19 March

Peter Gutwein,Premier

I welcome the appointment of Colin Carter as the independent consultant to review the business case for Tasmania's own AFL team.

Mr Carter is an experienced football person, having previously served on both the AFL Commission and around 10 years as President of the Geelong Football Club, until last year.

Mr Carter also has significant experience and business acumen in consulting and in the broader community, having served on numerous boards and committees across his career.

I am of the view he will provide a fair and balanced assessment of our business case, which will confirm that the inclusion of a Tasmanian team will not only stack up financially, but also complete the AFL by making it a truly national competition.

We now look to Mr Carter's work being completed by the middle of the year in line with the AFL's commitment, which will enable us to move forward with clarity, make arrangements with Hawthorn and North Melbourne, and importantly take the next steps towards our own Tasmanian team.
