AgForce supports petition for fairness in council rates

AgForce is urging members to get behind a Queensland petition calling on the State Government to enforce fairness and equity, following recent council land rate hikes.

The petition, spearheaded by the Bundaberg Regional Ratepayers Association, wants to see Queensland Rating Guidelines legislated so that councils will have a legal obligation to follow principals of predictability, fairness, and equity when making rating decisions.

Currently, councils are not legally required to follow the guidelines and as a result rating decisions are inconsistent across the state and often lack transparency and accountability.

The time has come to stop councils profiteering off landholders.

The petition will close on 15 August 2023, and can be signed here through the Queensland Parliament website.
