Aggravated robbery at Keswick

A man has been arrested after crashing a stolen car at Novar Gardens this morning.

About 5.30am Thursday 31 August a security guard responded to reports of an alarm at Keswick Barracks. When the Security guard arrived he was confronted by a man armed with a knife.

The man allegedly threatened the security guard before getting in his Toyota Corolla and driving away. Thankfully the security member was not physically injured. The security guard was able to call Triple Zero (000) and provide a description of the suspect and a direction of travel for his vehicle.

As police were responding to the robbery, another call came in from Anzac Highway at Novar Gardens where a Corolla had crashed into a bus stop. Witnesses reported the driver had run from the scene.

Patrols diverted to this location where they found the stolen car, and the driver a short distance away.

After a short struggle patrols arrested the suspect, a 27-year-old Christie Downs man. He is expected to be charged with a number of offences, including aggravated robbery.

There are some traffic restrictions for west bound on Anzac Highway while police organise a tow truck for the vehicle. Please take care if you're heading through that area this morning.

Further details on charges and bail will be provided when known.

There is no case file number at this time.
