Airports Hit by Rex Airlines Woes Get Grant Boost

Regional and remote airports impacted by Rex Airlines going into voluntary administration can now apply for funding through the Regional and Remote Airport Support Program.

Up to $5 million is available through the program to address the financial impact of unpaid claims, reduce the likelihood of airport or council services suffering and help ensure residents are not impacted.

Regional and remote airports are critical in keeping people and businesses connected and are important local employers.

Without debt relief, operators of many regional airports may not be able to recoup losses given the marginal profitability of regional routes for airlines.

The program is not part of AirT's acquisition of Rex Airlines, but a separate and new initiative that will support regional and remote areas.

Applications close on 17 March 2026 at 5.00pm (AEDT).
