The Finocchiaro CLP Government is continuing to deliver growth, certainty and security for Alice Springs, today announcing the new name of the Alice Springs comprehensive High School, and the next stages of the transition.
'Alice Springs College' will be led by Principal Donna O'Brien from 2027, operating at the current Centralian Middle School site in Gillen.
Ms O'Brien will oversee the transition this year, and from next year will lead the new school.
Work is underway to integrate the curriculum, staffing and operational systems between the Middle School and Senior College, and design for the new school.
Minister for Education and Training, Jo Hersey, said the Finocchiaro CLP Government was delivering action for Alice Springs.
"Phasing out the middle school model benefits everyone from students and families, to teachers, and the broader community," Minister Hersey said.
"Students will benefit from less transition points throughout High School, and have certainty they'll be at the same campus, surrounded by the same teachers, and same friendship groups.
"Teachers will benefit from better professional development opportunities, as we will provide training for current middle school teachers to teach NTCET (Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training) subjects.
"As a government we can address the root causes of crime through education by providing pathways to meaningful employment, and the new comprehensive high school and trade college will do exactly that," Minister Hersey said.
In 2027, Alice Springs College will operate as a comprehensive high school for years 7-12 at the current Centralian Middle School site in Gillen, and the site of the current Centralian Senior College in Sadadeen will be stood up as a Regional Trade and Industry College, providing more trade training opportunities for students in Alice Springs and the wider Central Australia region.
