Campaspe Shire Council is pleased to announce the opening to the public of the new all-accessible ramp and walkway at Riverboat Dock, providing improved access to the area for people of all abilities.
The project has delivered significant upgrades to the popular riverfront precinct, improving accessibility, safety and the overall visitor experience.
Works included the fabrication and installation of beams, piles, balustrades and associated steelwork, along with minor demolition, concreting, landscaping, irrigation, and decking works.
A significant portion of the ramp fabrication was completed off-site to minimise disruption to nearby businesses and public use of the area during construction.
Construction works were completed earlier this year however consistently high river levels made the area inaccessible to the public until recently.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell welcomed the opening of the ramp and walkway and said the project demonstrated Council's commitment to creating public areas that could be enjoyed by everyone.
"The new walkway and the all-accessible ramp provide a safer and more inclusive way for people to access the riverfront at Riverboat Dock," Cr Mackrell said.
"Riverboat Dock is one of Echuca's most popular tourism destinations and this upgrade will help ensure more people can enjoy everything the riverfront has to offer.
"Council is proud to have funded this important project, which supports accessibility, improves safety and enhances the visitor experience for locals and visitors alike."
The walkway and ramp project forms part of a broader program of improvements at Riverboat Dock, with several additional works also recently completed, including:
- Installation of wooden bollards in existing pavement cut-outs to replace flood-affected trees.
- Installation of four steel retractable bollards to improve safety and access control.
- Repairs to the Berth 6 retaining wall to support its long-term stability and safety.
These improvements help maintain Riverboat Dock as a safe, accessible and welcoming destination for all.
