Alleged drink driver caught speeding in Werribee

Police caught an alleged drink driver who sped past them in Werribee last night.

Officers were responding after a 20-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree on Heaths Road about 8.15pm.

She was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Police were still on scene at the car crash at about 10.30pm, when they noticed a vehicle allegedly driving erratically and at a fast rate of speed on nearby Shaws Road.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, however the driver did not stop.

Turning on to Vaina Street, the 28-year-old Laverton man lost control and crashed into a power pole.

The Laverton man sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

He was arrested and conveyed to Werribee Police Station where he returned an alleged evidentiary breath test reading of 0.184.

His licence was immediately suspended, and he has been charged with offences including reckless exposure of emergency worker to risk by driving, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous and other drink driving and traffic related offences.

He was bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrate's Court at a later date.
