Griffith Regional Art Gallery presents Allis Hamilton: Painting Home - From here to Grandma's House, opening Saturday 28 February at 2pm. The exhibition showcases a new body of landscape paintings by Riverina-born artist, poet and musician Allis Hamilton.
Created en plein air, out on the earth among the ants and birds, Hamilton's paintings emerge directly from the elements. For the artist, home is not a passive backdrop but a living, breathing presence—one she feels deeply and intimately connected to. Through her work, she seeks to capture the energy and awe inspired by the hills, trees and soils that have shaped and sustained her.
The exhibition subtitle, From here to Grandma's House, gestures toward both the personal and the universal. Hamilton's painting 'Grandma's House' speaks not only to her own grandmothers, but to all grandmothers—particularly those of the grasses, trees, insects, mammals and birds who call this place home. It is a poetic reflection on ancestry, belonging and the interwoven nature of community and landscape.
Gallery coordinator Melanie Toscan says 'Allis' artworks are scenes that so many of us from the Riverina can reminisce on and there is a story of season that undercurrents through the entire exhibition'.
Audiences are invited to explore this peaceful and immersive exhibition at the opening event on Saturday 28 February at 2pm, meet the artist, and experience Painting Home as an immersive tribute to place.
Allis Hamilton: Painting Home - From here to Grandma's House will be on display from Saturday 28 February to Sunday 22 March.
