Announcing 2026-27 May Budget

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

The Australian Government has handed down its 2026-27 Budget.

The Budget features a range of measures to help us continue to build a productive, resilient and sustainable economy for Australia in a time of global uncertainty. We will do this by harnessing research and development and reinvigorating Australia's industrial resilience.

Our portfolio will play an important role to:

  • drive transformation, growth and competitiveness of Australia's industries
  • grow national prosperity through a strong and resilient resources sector
  • invest in science and technology.

Measures include changes to our research and development architecture to drive further investment and better target national priorities.

It includes fresh investment in our national science agencies, including the CSIRO, Australian Space Agency and National Measurement Institute.

The ongoing situation in the Middle East underscores the importance of strong supply chains. The Budget provides further support to our heavy industries and invests in ongoing supply chain monitoring and management.

We are supporting our resources sector to play a key role in the transition to net zero. This is through our Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve and international engagement.
