Council has provided 35 community organisations with grants of up to $7,500 each for projects that will create opportunities to connect our communities in new ways.
Annual Community Grants recipients will share in over $211,000 to offer a wide range of programs and activities to Bayside residents.
As we continue to navigate the ongoing implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, applications from a variety of community organisations recognised mental health and social connections as an ongoing community need.
Applications also highlighted a focus on environmental sustainability, intergenerational projects, food security, wellbeing, waste reduction and volunteer engagement.
Bayside Mayor, Councillor Laurence Evans OAM said the grants are one of Council's primary ways to provide financial support to community groups who continue to navigate the stop-start nature of running programs in a pandemic.
"It's been a tough 18 months for our community but our community groups have been incredibly resilient in finding new ways to deliver their programs," Cr Evans said.
"The 35 grant recipients reflect the diverse groups and interests of the Bayside community and give residents the chance to learn a new skill, share an experience or meet someone new.
As a Council we will continue to do what is within our power to support these groups reactivate and deliver their much loved and highly valued programs to our community."
Spotlight on Grant Recipients
Castlefield Community Centre- The Building Blocks to Connect program will enhance digital literacy and develop skills that enable connection to community through tutoring, nourishing food and support from a social worker.
Food For Change Foundation Ltd- As part of the Food Security Farm program, Food For Change will grow tunnels that will extend growing season, increase outputs and increase volunteer opportunities to meet increasing demand from food relief organisations.
Bayside Toy Library- The Bayside Toy Library will develop a Zero Waste Pack that enables Bayside Families to organise children parties in a sustainable and affordable way, minimising waste and reducing over consumerism.
Sandringham Life Saving Inc- An Over 60's active participation program- Silver Salties, will offer a low impact fitness regime that offers over 60's social and active participation opportunities regardless of mobility, swimming capability or fitness levels.
Family Life Limited- To better equip volunteers to respond to community members needs and have the tools, skills and confidence to provide community members with information.
