Following on from his superb creation last year, artist Jimmy Dvate has unveiled his latest mural underneath the Terralong Street underbridge.
Dvate has recently been spending many hours on the southern side of the road to bring this artwork to life after he painted a mural featuring an Eastern Ground Parrot, Eastern Bristlebird, Variegated Fairy Wren and an Illawarra Zieria plant on the northern side of the underbridge last November.
This time around he has again focused on local flora and fauna with an Eastern Osprey the centrepiece of the mural which also includes Peach-flowered Tea Trees and the iconic Cathedral Rocks at Kiama Downs.
Dvate took the photo of the mural's osprey at a wildlife sanctuary and its piercing eyes are a standout feature of the artwork.
He has been actively painting since he started on the streets of Melbourne in 1997, producing hundreds of eye-catching artworks which adorn a wide variety of places such as silos, shopping centres, water tanks, office buildings, churches and unit blocks.
This project, which was funded by Kiama Council, forms part of Creative Kiama's Cultural Plan 2025-2029, which supports more public street art, murals and outdoor festivals that contribute to the area's unique identity.
"I'd just like to say a massive thank you to Kiama Council for giving me the opportunity to create another mural here and to all the community for all their support," he said.
"The feedback I've been getting from passers-by as they've walked past has been amazing. Lots of kind words.
"It's been a pleasure to come back and hopefully I can do it again and again."
Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald was delighted with the finished product.
"This is a sensational piece of artwork that will bring joy to many people for years to come," he said.
"I love that Jimmy has again been able to incorporate local wildlife into his mural and with Cathedral Rocks there as well, it is a sight to behold that brilliantly represents our local area."
