Appeal after man punched, kicked at Newtown

Police have released CCTV stills and are appealing for public assistance after a man was punched and kicked in an apparent random assault in Sydney's Inner West yesterday.

About 12.50pm (Thursday 12 November 2020), a 28-year-old man was waiting at a bus stop near the intersection of King and Newman streets, Newtown, when he was approached by a man he didn't know.

Police have been told the man was grabbed by the shoulder and punched in the face, then kicked in the stomach multiple times before the attacker ran away along King Street, towards the Princes Highway.

The injured man has been treated in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for bleeding, bruising and swelling to his face.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, police have released images of man who may be able to assist.

He is depicted as Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, 170cm-175cm tall, with a large build, about 25-30 years old, with short, black, curly hair. At the time he was wearing a black jacket with a Nike logo, black pants and black sneakers.
