Appeal after man stabbed at Nelson Bay

Police are appealing for witnesses following a stabbing in Nelson Bay this morning.

Just after 1.30pm (Sunday 13 March 2022), emergency services were called to Donald Street, Nelson Bay, following reports of a brawl.

A short time later, officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended a home on Shoal Bay Road, where they located a 41-year-old man suffering stab wounds to his back.

Officers assisted the man before he was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition, suffering collapsed lungs and bruising and lacerations to his head.

Police conducted a search of Donald Street and located a number of items, which were seized for forensic examination.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

As inquiries into the incident continue, police believe there are witnesses to the incident who have not yet come forward and are encouraging anyone with information, or who has dashcam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers. Information can be provided anonymously.
