Appeal after serious assault in Sydney CBD

Police have released images of a man following a serious assault in the Sydney CBD overnight.

About 10.30pm Wednesday 6 April 2023, a 76-year-old man was with a friend waiting for their ride share at the intersection of Castlereagh and Pitt Street, Sydney, when they were approached by an unknown man.

A short argument ensued before the unknown man assaulted the older man causing him to fall over.

The man then fled the scene and was last seen running south bound on Castlereagh Street towards Central Railway Station.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command attended along with Ambulance NSW paramedics, who rendered aid to the man.

As an investigation into the incident continues, police have released vision of a man they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 45 to 50-years-old, of medium build and approximately 170cm tall with a short grey beard. He was wearing a black baseball cap, light coloured t-shirt, dark coloured pants with a black satchel type bag over his shoulder.
