Detectives are appealing for public assistance to locate high-performance and luxury vehicles stolen during recent aggravated break-ins at homes in Sydney's north.
As part of proactive targeting of members and associates of criminal networks across Sydney, Strike Force Hawk officers are conducting inquiries into activities and crimes suspected to be related to the preparation for public acts of violence.
Criminal Groups Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor, said the suppression of the use of stolen vehicles in organised criminal activity was a key strategy under Strike Force Hawk.
"We have previously seized more than 40 luxury stolen vehicles used in crimes across Greater Sydney – including vehicles used in an alleged murder attempt at North Sydney earlier this year and a double murder at Guildford last month," Det Supt Taylor said.
"A number of people are before the courts for their alleged roles in facilitating the use of these stolen vehicles, and investigators are now seeking further assistance from the public to locate additional cars stolen from Sydney's north in recent times."
The break-ins and thefts, which have occurred in Sydney's north since Monday 25 October 2021, include;
• Between 11.45pm on Monday 25 October 2021 and 6.15am on Tuesday 26 October 2021, a blue 2019 Volkswagen Golf Highline with registration 'EAQ55W' was stolen from Gladesville.
• Between 10pm on Thursday 28 October 2021 and 8.20am on Friday 29 October 2021, a grey 2017 MINI Cooper with registration 'DLT21S' was stolen from a Warrawee home. A white 2017 BMW 530i sedan was also stolen from this property and has since been recovered.
• Between 11pm on Monday 1 November 2021 and 8am on Tuesday 2 November 2021, unknown people gained entry to an Abbotsford home and stole a key for a 2014 grey Porsche Macan S with registration 'FP6666', before stealing the vehicle from the roadway outside the property.
• About 3am on Tuesday 2 November 2021, a white 2014 Mercedes A200 with registration plates 'CRY80M' was stolen from the garage of a Frenchs Forest home.
"Detectives have reason to believe these cars – particularly the Porsche and Mercedes – may be used to facilitate other serious crime and possibly contain cloned number plates of an identical make and model," Det Supt Taylor said.
"We know these high-performance vehicles may be stored in areas or locations which are unusual for the type of car; therefore, we're urging anyone who may've seen something out of the ordinary, to come forward and contact police."
Meanwhile, police are urging the community to take extra precautions in terms of securing their home and property to reduce the risk of becoming the target of thieves.
NSW Police Corporate Sponsor for Crime Prevention, Assistant Commissioner Gelina Talbot, said criminals are opportunists and usually seek out homes with poor security.
"People should be observant of any suspicious activity around their homes and ensure to record a description of any people or vehicles that appear out of place," Assistant Commissioner Talbot said.
"If you own a luxury car and park it in your driveway, you should take extra steps to ensure your home is adequately protected from any intruders. Store the vehicle's keys in a secure location – away from any doors or windows.
"Make sure your home is fitted with quality security doors, locks, alarms, lighting, and warning signs, and that all windows, doors and garage doors are secured," Assistant Commissioner Talbot said.
