Appeal for witnesses after cyclist dies in South Coast PD

Police are appealing for public assistance after the death of a cyclist in the state’s south, NSW Police say.

About 10.50am on Saturday 23 June 2018, emergency services were called to Mt Darragh Road at Lochiel, about 20km north of Eden, following reports a cyclist had crashed.

The cyclist, a 72-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, where he died earlier this week.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

Initial inquiries suggest a 37-year-old man had stopped his Nissan utility to speak with the cyclist prior to the crash.

The 37-year-old man was taken to Merimbula Police Station where he was later released, pending further inquiries.

Investigators are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision of the incident to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
