Appeal for witnesses after needles found in train seat

Police are appealing for public assistance after a number of needles were found in the seat of a Watergardens line train yesterday, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told a man boarded a Melbourne-bound train at West Footscray train station just before 8am.

When the train arrived at North Melbourne the man sat down on a vacant seat and felt a pin-prick in the back of his leg and buttock.

There were approximately 20 needles inserted into the seat and surrounding seats.

The victim pulled them out and disposed of them at Flinders Street train station.

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and are keen to speak to any witnesses travelling on the train.

Anyone who has information about this matter is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
