Appeal for witnesses following attempted armed robbery in Cabramatta

Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted armed robbery in Sydney’s south-west, NSW Police say.

About 11pm on Thursday 11 January 2018, police have been told a 50-year-old woman was walking on McBurney Road, Cabramatta, when a man ran up behind her and pushed her to the ground.

The man grabbed onto her handbag but the woman refused to let it go.

The man used what is believed to be electroshock weapon on the woman but fled the scene empty-handed.

She suffered injuries to her hand but refused medical treatment.

Officers from Fairfield Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Police wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 20s, with a muscular build and wearing a black hooded shirt and red shorts.

Officers also wish to speak with a male witness who came to the aid of the woman.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
