Appeal to find teens after Wollongong assault, NSW

Police are seeking public assistance to identify those responsible for the assault and robbery of a man at Wollongong overnight, NSW Police say.

Officers from Wollongong Police District have been told a 19-year-old man was standing in Burelli Street, Wollongong, when he was approached by a youth about 8:15pm (Monday 23 April 2018).

Police have been told after the youth punched the man in the face, two young men joined in the assault before they took a mobile phone and ran away.

The man chased the three youths to Wollongong Railway Station where they ran up the eastern side of the railway walkway onto Crown Street.

He caught up with them and demanded his phone be returned; however, the youth claimed to have a knife then ran away. No knife was produced.

Police have now released a description of three youths they believe can assist with inquiries.

The first youth is described as being aged between 14 and 16, of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall with a thin build, and curly brown ear-length hair. The teen had numerous pimples on his face and he was wearing a blue baseball cap at the time.

The second youth is described as being aged between 13 and 14, of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 165cm tall with an athletic build, and short, curly brown hair.

The third youth is described only as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, with a small build and short black hair; he was said to be shorter than the other youths.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers.
