Appeal to identify speeding quad bike rider in Meadow Heights

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after the rider of a blue quad bike failed to stop for police in Meadow Heights yesterday afternoon.

The Police Air Wing first observed two scooter motorbikes and a quad bike riding along Broadmeadows Valley Trail about 3.35pm.

The vehicles were travelling north and forcing pedestrians off the pathway.

The scooter riders split up and the Air Wing followed the quad bike, which was riding at speed and narrowly missing pedestrians.

The rider then collided with a stationary police vehicle before taking off at speed.

Police pursued the bike for a short distance however stopped due to safety concerns.

The quad bike was last seen travelling on Shankland Boulevard, where it allegedly veered on the wrong side of the road.

Police subsequently located the rider of one scooter and impounded his vehicle.

The male teen is also expected to be charged on summons with several traffic offences including unlicensed driving.

Officers then seized the second scooter which was left unoccupied.

The second scooter rider and the rider of the quad bike remain outstanding at this stage.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the group riding along the trail to come forward to police.

Police are especially keen to obtain dashcam footage of the blue quad bike.
