Mental Health Week is a part of a national awareness campaign held each October, aligning with the World Mental Health Day on 10 October, and this year, it features events across the State.
This year's theme, 'Appreciate the Little Things' encourages Tasmanians to pause and reflect on how simple moments of connection, kindness and gratitude can make a big difference.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said that the week has created an opportunity for Tasmanians to come together through community activities.
"These events highlight the vital role of social connection, creativity, and support in maintaining mental health and wellbeing," Minister Archer said.
"Our Government is proud to support the Mental Health Council of Tasmania as a key stakeholder and partner in the mental health sector, as well as to support Mental Health Week and its Small Grants program, enabling local organisations to host events in their own communities.
"Long term mental health reform continues to be a key priority, with Rethink 2020 serving as Tasmania's strategic mental health plan for the past decade, guiding efforts to empower Tasmanians to maximise their mental health and wellbeing.
"We are working together to move our State forward, dealing with challenges with compassion and commonsense.
"Under the strategy, we have delivered major initiatives including new contemporary services such as the Mental Health Emergency Response Service, Peacock Centre, Medicare Mental Health Centre in Launceston, and the Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home pilot in the North West.
"We're making significant investments into key services, staffing and infrastructure to ensure that Tasmanians across the State can receive the care and support that they deserve.
"As Rethink concludes this year, we are evaluating its impact and using these insights to develop the next Tasmanian Mental Health Plan, Rethink and Beyond. This next plan will build on the strong foundations developed in the past decade, with a focus on strengthening prevention and early intervention."
To help celebrate Mental Health Week, there are multiple events being held across the State. The full event program can be found on the Mental Health Council of Tasmania's website: Mental Health Week Event Program - Mental Health Council of Tasmania
