April King Tide On Way

Council is urging residents in low lying areas to prepare for potential flooding due to a weekend of higher than usual tides from Friday.

The tides of more than 3.7m will start on Friday 5 April and continue to affect the Townsville region to Monday 8 April, reaching a high of 4.00m at 7:49am Sunday 7 April.

The tides are not expected to top the March king tide of 4.18m.

Council recommends residents in areas prone to flooding when king tides occur take necessary precautions, including moving items to higher ground where possible.

Areas likely to be impacted include Railway Estate, South Townsville, Hanran Street and Ogden Street.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures and advised not to drive through salt water.
